The comparison
(an essay about the connection of a song, a poem, and my life)
The song “For a Dancer”, the Poem, “A Dream Deferred”, and my life have a few common features that are worth telling about. Discovering those features were difficult but as time went on I was able to come up with some good comparisons. What do these two writings have in common with my life? They all sound significantly dissimilar, making it difficult to discover some of the same things. [alli] The name ‘“For a Dancer” and the name, “A Dream Deferred”’ sound very different. I would like to describe some characteristics that are very similar among the three.
The song, “For a Dancer”, and, “A Dream Deferred have 2 completely different names so it was difficult to find things they have in common. The first trait they have in common is that they are both kind of depressing. In the song,” For a Dancer”’ Jackson Browne sings about his bisexual friend who was made fun of and then died in a fire. The poem,” A Dream Defferred”’ is about someone’s dream never happening. Also, they kind of have the same meaning. The poem, “Dream Deferred” is describing the death of somebody’s dream, and the, “Song For a Dancer” is mourning the death of a friend. [alli] Finally, something nearly the same about them is that they are both very well written. Langston Hughes viewed the possibilities in a different way like how he described dying dream to a raisin in the sun. Jackson Browne really showed how he felt about his best friend being made fun of and then being unfortunate enough to die in a fire, therefore after really thinking the two have more in common than expected.
The song,” For a Dancer”, and, “ A Dream Deferred”, have a few attributes in common with my life. I can compare my life to the song, “ For a Dancer”, in the emotional area. My grandpa died a couple months after I was born so I only got to meet him once and I am very upset by that. I am comparing this to how Jackson Brown Felt about his best friend dying in that fire. I would also like to compare my life to the poem, “ A Dream Deferred”, but in a more physical way. My dream for a while was to finish my tree house that I was trying to build myself and my siblings. Unfortunately my dream was a too heavy load and sagged too much and blew over during the recent hurricane. Lastly from my point of view they are all written. “A Dream Deferred”, was written to describe a dying dream and, a, “Song For a Dancer”, was written to mourn the death of Jackson Browne’s best friend. [alli.] My life Is still a book to be finished and I hope its not as saddening as the others. My life is a book with no main idea and has a lot to still be written
I was able to explain thoroughly some of the few connections of these three characteristics that I thought were all interesting. [alli]. there may be other qualities I didn’t mention. There are many songs and poems but there are none exactly the same as these two.
